Journey back in time with Jack Kelly and his crew of young newspaper delivery boys and girls as they lead the Newsboys Strike, fighting for justice through a song and a dance!
Based on the true story of the 1899 youth-led campaign to demand change for the working conditions of newspaper hawkers in New York City, ‘Newsies’ remains as relevant today as it was over 100 years ago. Central themes include social justice, wealth inequality, and the power of young people to bring about change.
At YouthAction NI and The Rainbow Factory School of Performing Arts, we champion this message and support young people as they continue lead the way to a fair and inclusive future for all.
The Newsboys succeeded in 1899, paving the way for policy reform and holding the rich and powerful to account. And young people in Northern Ireland are succeeding today.
With the support of YANI and The Rainbow Factory, young people are
- championing to End Violence Against Women and Girls;
- including diverse voices in all conversations;
- gaining qualifications that change their lives and their communities;
- building confidence, friendships, and skills to become leaders;
- holding leaders to account and demanding change.
They are lighting the way to a brighter future for the young people of Northern Ireland. And, just like the Newsies, fighting for justice through a song and a dance!
