The Trial - Are You Guilty Of Racism?

'The Trial: Are you guilty of Racism?'

YouthAction Northern Ireland are presenting their 2011 Suitcase Theatre Roadshow which focuses on deeply rooted prejudices and discrimination based on race in Northern Ireland. This new issue based theatre production, workshop and resource pack provides young people with a platform to explore their attitudes towards difference and inter-culturalism within Northern Ireland. The performance and post performance workshops are aimed at young people aged 13 to 25.
Since October 2010, a cast of 20 young people have worked in collaboration with 5 artists and 7 youth workers to create this year's road show.

'The Trial: Are you guilty of Racism?'
explores the concept of racism and inter-culturalism within Northern Ireland. Is is something that is being addressed, or is it an issue that only affects a few? We explore the impact that globalisation has had on our views towards other races and questions whether or not racism is the new sectarianism within Northern Ireland. Through the performance, the audience will challenge their views about how racism can be taught or learned through a variety of spheres of influence.
As part of the performance, the audience will become the jurors and decide who is guilty of racism. Through the post performance workshop, the cast will facilitate the audience to discuss practical steps towards creating a more inter-cultural society within Northern Ireland. The performance and workshop will last approximately 2 hours. There will be flash lighting used during the performances.
